Do you serve alcohol?

What is typically on the file

General liability

The form landlords and vendors usually ask about first. Guest slips, food claims, and catering away from the dining room. Additional insureds should match the lease.

Liquor liability

If you serve alcohol, liquor liability is usually separate. A general liability form often does not cover claims that come from serving alcohol when that is part of the business.

Property

Build-out, kitchen equipment, furniture, and stock. In Florida, wind and hurricane deductibles are often a percentage of the insured value. Spoilage and equipment breakdown are not automatic.

Workers’ compensation

Florida generally requires coverage once a non-construction employer has four or more employees. Payroll should follow cooks, servers, and delivery as they actually staff.

Workers’ comp rates are the same. The program is not.

In Florida, workers’ comp rates are set by the state and the same across carriers. Jupiter Coverage has carrier relationships with high dividend programs. A dividend is money back after the policy year when the program qualifies. It is not a lower quoted rate, and it is not guaranteed on every account.

Questions owners ask

What is usually on a Florida restaurant policy?

Most files start with general liability, property for the build-out and kitchen equipment, and workers’ compensation when you have employees. If you serve alcohol, liquor liability is usually its own form. The lease, the liquor license, and how you serve decide the rest.

Does general liability cover alcohol service?

Often no, when serving alcohol is part of the business. Liquor liability is a separate discussion from a guest slip or a food claim.

Do you work outside the Jupiter area?

Yes. This page is for restaurant, bar, and cafe owners anywhere in Florida. Call (561) 529-4949 or use the form above.

Why does the agency matter if the rate is set?

Because the rate is the same. What changes is the carrier and the program. Ask which dividend program fits the payroll and the loss history.
