Restaurant and hospitality insurance

Restaurant and hospitality coverage reviewed with how the place actually runs.

A kitchen, a dining room, and a payroll are not a generic shopkeepers file. Having a policy is not the same as having the right coverage.

Hospitality coverage for Florida restaurants.

Jupiter Coverage is an independent agency based in Jupiter, Florida. We write restaurant and hospitality accounts the same way we handle other commercial work: start with how the place operates, then look at what a policy would actually do after a claim.

Florida restaurants usually need more than one form. General liability, liquor liability, workers’ compensation, and property are the usual starting points — whether the kitchen is in Jupiter, Miami, Tampa, or elsewhere in the state. Delivery, outdoor seating, catering, and valet change the file. This page is an overview, not a binder of insurance.

Lines we commonly review for restaurants

General liability

General liability is the coverage most landlords and vendors ask about first. It is meant to respond when someone alleges the restaurant caused injury or damage — a guest slip, a claim involving food, or damage away from the premises during catering. Limits, additional insureds, and what the form excludes should match the lease and the way you serve people.

Liquor liability

If you serve alcohol, liquor liability is usually its own discussion. A general liability policy often does not cover claims that arise from serving alcohol when that is part of the business. We review how you serve, whether you have a bar, and what the lease or local license expects before anyone talks premium.

Workers’ compensation

Kitchen and dining-room work involves heat, knives, wet floors, and late hours. Florida generally requires workers’ compensation when you have employees. The coverage is meant to help with medical costs and lost wages after a work injury, and the payroll by class — cooks, servers, delivery — belongs on the application as it actually is, not as a guess.

Property

Restaurant property is the build-out, kitchen equipment, furniture, and stock. In Florida, wind and hurricane deductibles are often a percentage of the building or contents value, not a flat dollar amount. Hood systems, fryers, and refrigeration matter to the underwriting. A basic property form may not include spoilage or equipment breakdown unless those are added.

When the operation changes the file

Off-premises catering, employee or third-party delivery, valet, live music, and sidewalk or patio seating are not footnotes. They change liability, auto, and sometimes property. Tell us how the work is done — including seasonal staff and catering calendars — and we will tell you which of those belong on the proposal.

Related commercial lines

Some restaurants also need to talk through business interruption, hired and non-owned auto, employment practices, cyber, or employee dishonesty. Those sit with the rest of the commercial coverage we review. We do not add them by default.

What Florida restaurant files usually bring up

A Florida restaurant has the same core lines as a restaurant anywhere, plus a few state facts that should be said in plain language:

  • Wind and hurricane deductibles on property are commonly a percentage. That should be reviewed before a storm, not after.
  • Liquor liability is not automatic on general liability when you are in the business of serving alcohol.
  • Workers’ compensation payroll should follow the kitchen and front-of-house as they actually staff, including seasonal help.
  • Landlords, alcohol distributors, and some vendors will ask for a certificate. Those requests are handled from this office — see certificates and claims.

We shop markets and explain what a form will and will not do. We do not quote a price on this page, bind coverage online, or promise a carrier.

New York hospitality accounts

The principals are licensed in New York. We work New York restaurant and hospitality accounts from the Jupiter, Florida office. New York is a licensed service area, not a second location — there is no New York storefront.
